Job Description:

Job Purpose:

The senior accountant at Church Initiative assumes complete responsibility to process and maintain all financial and accounting records while processing all transactions for the ministry under the supervision of the Director of Finance. This is a key role that facilitates Church Initiative financial record keeping, accounting and all aspects of compliance reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Receive, evaluate, process and maintain both manual and automated records of all ministry financial transactions using a personal computer, 10 Key calculator, etc. This includes receive, verify, allocate, and post details of business transactions to computer based sales, billing and accounting systems inclusive of General Ledger, Accounts-Receivable; Accounts-Payable; Payroll; Inventory and Fixed Assets computer systems.

Track, reconcile and balance cash, credit card, royalty and investment accounts on a monthly basis.

Coordinate or assist with the annual budget, financial statement and tax return preparation processes; both departmental and ministry wide.

Compile reports using accounting system and spreadsheet systems to show statistics, accounts payable and receivable, profit and loss, and other information pertinent to operations.

Process, balance and evaluate payroll and related benefits in conjunction with outside service providers.

Receive, evaluate and manage vendor invoices, statements and inquiries.

Maintain manual and automated filing systems including records storage, retention, etc.

Plan and supervise annual physical inventory count.

Oversee documentation of receiving and shipping functions.

Additional duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Because this position is central to administrative and financial roles in a ministry with national and international visibility, it is important that the successful candidate have a strong spiritual background. This includes a professed relationship with Jesus Christ, a consistent and deep personal walk with the Lord, and a demonstrated heart for ministry through the local church evidenced by active membership in a local church. 

The position is well suited for experienced individuals who demonstrate excellent command of accounting, responsibility, team spirit, flexibility, personal computer and internet proficiency. This includes, but is not limited to, proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Browsers and Cloud based systems. Of particular importance is the ability to work independently with attention to detail.

Strong organizational, administrative and planning skills are needed, along with effective communication and people skills. Multiple years of bookkeeping/accounting experience preferred along with a degree in related studies.

Residence in the greater Raleigh/Wake Forest, NC area is required as is the ability to see color.
