About Flying H Youth Ranch

The Flying H Youth Ranch (FHYR) is a Christian boarding school for teenage boys from troubled families, operating under the jurisdiction of a tax exempt, non-profit, charitable organization, incorporated under sec. 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Our facilities include a new school, lodge, gym, auto shop and horse arena located on a 450 acre ranch 25 miles west of Yakima, Washington, on the eastern slope of the Cascade Mountains.

Funding for the Mission comes in the form of private, tax-deductible donations providing staff income, and tuition paid by families of the resident boys covering costs of services provided, including room, board, schooling, etc.  All staff positions are filled by missionaries qualified under FHYR standards, and supported by private donations. Operating year-round with a capacity of 24 boys, we offer mentoring, schooling, and constant staff supervision, in a boarding school format.  Boys typically come with an inability to build meaningful relationships, form responsible moral codes, control impulses, or achieve academically.

The boys are placed for an eighteen month minimum stay.  The goal is to address issues in the entire family, aiming for personal and relational growth throughout the family.  Presenting behaviors lead to a search for deeper root causes.  Analysis and solutions are sought within the framework of a Biblical worldview.  Our approach includes spiritual, behavioral, emotional, social, educational, vocational, and recreational dimensions.  A full range of academic courses are offered, as well as extensive vocational education opportunities, including machining, welding, automotive, culinary, wood shop, photography, etc. Hope Academy is certified with the Washington State Board of Education and is accredited through ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International).
