Minimum Requirements
2-4 Years of Pastoral Experience (With Children's Ministry emphasis)
Summary of Position:
Lead the Children’s Ministry of this church which is comprised of newborns through age 11 or fifth grade. Conduct strategic planning for ministry that ensures biblical instruction, church doctrine, and church values are inculcated. Direct ministry for children
that is held in conjunction with all weekend church services and midweek family ministries.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Develop and implement a strategic plan for the children’s ministry at two campuses.
One is a midsize campus with three services averaging 125 children per weekend; and the other is a small campus with less than 15 children per single weekend service.
1. Receive and implement guidance from the Lead Pastor in all areas of children’s ministry.
2. Oversee and continue development of existing volunteer teams, leaders, and systems needed to grow and shepherd the children’s ministry.
3. Familiarize with, initiate updates and supervise implementation of Children’s Ministry
Handbook and related ministry policies.
4. Implement children’s ministry strategy by scheduling annual calendar of events.
5. Oversee weekend attendance of children and maintain readiness to discuss attendance of all children’s ministry events.
6. Advocate for the youngest church attenders and arrange opportunities for them to worship, learn, and serve together.
B. Organize and supervise planning and conduct of all children’s ministry activities to include a week-long Vacation Bible School, Kids camps, and special seasonal events.
1. In collaboration with ministry volunteers, conduct planning for children’s events.
2. Maintain children’s ministry group in Church Community Builder (CCB).
3. Ensure that children’s events are properly scheduled in CCB.
4. Oversee implementation of church childcare ministry.
5. Promote children’s ministry using all available outlets such as flyers, social media, videos, and church-wide emails.
6. Select age-appropriate curricular materials in collaboration with supervisor and children’s ministry leaders.
7. Coordinate the development and preparation of lesson plans for weekend and midweek services.
8. Direct and support all volunteers during children’s ministry events.
9. Assist children’s ministry leaders in connecting regularly with parents to enable a clear partnership in the discipleship of their children.
10. Oversee conduct of Vacation Bible School.
11. Collaborate with Youth Pastor to facilitate a smooth transition for pre-teens from children’s ministry to youth ministry.
C. Recruit, develop and sustain an effective children’s ministry team of volunteers.
1. Apply the principle of Ephesians 4:11-13 to equip other mature Christian adults to minister to children.
2. Verify background check process for, and status of, volunteer staffing for children’s ministries.
3. Ensure weekly scheduling of all children’s volunteers through Planning Center.
4. On as needed basis, schedule and conduct volunteer staff training.
5. Periodically hold appreciation events for ministry volunteers.
D. Fulfill ministry logistic functions
1. Verify maintenance of classroom furniture and room cleanliness; communicate shortfalls to the Facility Manager.
2. Communicate and coordinate with Valley Christian Academy teaching staff to address and resolve any classroom-related issues.
3. Coordinate with media pastor for support and maintenance of electronic equipment used to conduct children’s ministry.
4. Supervise a check-in and check-out system that ensures the safety of all children in the care of Kids ministry staff.
5. Ensure availability of up-to-date parent handouts.
6. Ensure that nursery toys are properly and regularly sanitized.
7. Execute the children’s ministry budget and provide input as requested or needed.
8. Review and approve reimbursement requests for children’s ministry team purchases.
9. On monthly basis, verify counting and depositing of children’s offerings.
E. Fulfill staff pastor functions.
1. Coordinate scheduling, preparation and conduct of quarterly child dedications.
2. Participate in pastoral staff rotation to prepare and deliver occasional weekend sermon in adult services.
3. Participate in scheduled pastoral or church staff meetings.
4. Seek and participate in sustained pastoral development training.
