Christian Children's Home of Ohio and family of ministries (Encompass Christian Counseling & Encourage Foster Care) is seeking a Director of Development to create, facilitate, and cultivate a resource-enrichment strategy, which produces large financial gifts, and builds relationships, creating numerous, efficient, and compelling opportunities for donors to support CCHO, as well as make the experience of giving satisfying and rewarding. The Director of Development is responses for speaking and communicating with the general public (church congregations, civic organizations, business leaders, etc.) and internal teams, working collaborateively to ensure that annual and monthly goals are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: It is the responsibility of each employee to be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ and to adhere to the Standard of Moral Conduct and Statement of Faith.  Further, each employee is responsible for dealing with others with a Christ-like attitude while helping them experience their worth in Christ, and for demonstrating behaviors reflecting CCHO's core values of Relentless Commitment, Selflessness, and Kindness.

Other essential functions of the job include the following:

  • Makes every effort to maintain a ‘team first’ spirit and atmosphere within the workplace environment – fostering and maintaining appropriate working relationships within the Advancement and leadership teams, and with other Agency departments, as well.
  • Develops, fosters and maintains quality relationships with internal and external customers, vendors, employees, etc.
  • Develops and enriches relationships with members of the Board of Trustees, corporate partners, community organizations, and major and/or long-time donors for the benefit of additional financial support.
  • Partners with Executive Team leaders and departments to brand and market/impact the Agency Family of Ministries
  • Plans, manages and provides oversight to fundraising, marketing and awareness campaigns, events, and activities
  • Identifies and cultivates prospective donors of all sizes, focusing primarily on large donors.
  • Stays on top of advancements and changes that are pertinent to raising money within the community, to CCHO's mission and programs, and to the development profession
  • Forecasts and evaluates the potential of fund-raising campaigns and activities
  • Produces solicitation materials for fund-raising campaigns.
  • Compiles and analyzes information about potential contributors to develop mailing or contact list and to plan appropriate approach.
  • Writes, telephones, or visits potential contributors and persuades them to contribute funds or gifts-in-kind by explaining purpose and benefits of the institutional advancement program.
  • Collaborates with development team and other agency departments to plan, produce/facilitate large-scale events, such as the Heart for the Home Celebration, Annual Great Grill-Off and annual golf outing, among others.
  • Records expenses incurred and contributions received.
  • Promotes CCHO through public speaking and marketing, especially (but not exclusively) to church congregations, often speaking from the pulpit during Sunday morning services. Sunday morning obligations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employees in the Development Department, including both fund-raising and marketing. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ensures that agency vision and direction are communicated on a level that allows every employee to understand their ownership in the success of the agency and that they are a valued member of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or Communications; or one to two years related experience and/or training in advancement; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3-5 years of fund-raising experience required, including a demonstrated track record in fundraising large/corporate financial gifts. 3-5 years of leadership experience required, leadership experience in fundraising, strongly preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent verbal, written, telephonic, and public speaking skills required. Must be comfortable and skilled at speaking to large groups, especially, but not exclusively to church congregations from the pulpit/during Sunday services. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from agencies, families, clients, donors, and the general public. Ability to write reports, create materials, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office; internet.
