Job Summary: 

Through a strong Christian worldview, the Mental Health Supervisor is responsible for the strategic development, management, and implementation of the Mental Health Department to the program participants of The City Mission. Under the supervision of the COO, develops a suite of mental health services to meet the diverse needs of residents in TCM’s care while providing general supervision to all assigned staff and practicum students.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Provides leadership and manages the department/staff effectively and efficiently.
  • Assists in the interviewing of potential staff and interns and makes recommendations for hiring.
  • Coaches, corrects, rewards, recognizes, and reviews staff and interns in accordance with TCM’s Core Values & policies.
  • Completes Performance Management Tool process for all direct reports quarterly and annually.

Essential Job Functions: 

Oversees and Coordinates

  • As the subject matter expert, provides recommendations and training to operations team on best practices and policy towards the support of resident mental health.
  • Stewards financial resources and provides leadership feedback on the development of the annual budget.
  • Ensures compliance with internal standards and goals, all contract/grant specifications, as well as licensing, regulatory, and accreditation standards as applicable.
  • Maintains a rigorous internship program with an emphasis on future engagement with The City Mission.
  • Highly collaborates with program staff; maintaining confidentiality, provides and receives relevant information on the care of program participants.

Service Development and Design

  • Develops detailed project plans and logic models to clearly define and monitor program goals and agency strategic initiatives.
  • Regularly assesses the needs of residents and adapts services to meet the appropriate level of care.
  • Develops system of quality control, assurance, and measurement within implemented services

Provides Direct Therapeutic Services

  • Maintains a caseload of current program participants.
  • Develops a therapeutic relationship with assigned residents.
  • Provides individual, group, or family therapy as needed. Available for clinical consultation and crisis intervention.
  • Assumes an advocacy role for residents and makes recommendations for clinical and support services needed upon exit.

Other Responsibilities

Education/Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in counseling or related field is required.
  • LPCC-S or LPCC with intent to receive Supervisor designation in the State of Ohio.
  • Experience within a residential or institutional setting preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications: 

  • Meets requirements to be an approved driver of TCM vehicles is preferred.

Essential Physical and Mental Functions: 

  • Remains in a stationary position for approximately 30% of the time
  • Stand or walk for up 70% of the time on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
  • Climb stairs.
  • Constantly bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties.
  • Constant use of both hands, fingers, and arms in reaching/handling/grasping.
  • Operates a computer as needed
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination.
  • Constant use of hearing (correctable hearing to normal level required) for day-to-day job functions
  • Read, understand, and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones.
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments.
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Must be able to handle pressure of constantly working with individuals in crisis.
  • Must be able to handle pressure of interruptions in daily activities.
  • Subject to excessive noise

  • Professes Jesus as Lord and Savior.
  • Believes the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, & ultimate authoritative Word of God (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:21).
  • Patterns life after the example of Jesus and the commands and principles found in the Bible – consistent with TCM’s doctrinal statement, statement of faith, and lifestyle principle.
