Job Summary:
Through a strong Christian worldview, the Workforce Development Specialist is primarily responsible for facilitating employment training, work readiness activities, and job placement of residents. This includes adult education, coordinating employment skills
curriculum designed to increase employability, enhancing resident motivation, improving life skills, and offering referrals and support that ultimately lead to employment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This role does not currently supervise other staff; however, this role will supervise volunteers and interns as applicable.
- Coaches, corrects, rewards, recognizes, and reviews volunteers and interns in accordance with TCM’s Core Values & policies.
Essential Job Functions:
Develops Resident Skills
- Assists residents in building a value of work and setting work related goals.
- Facilitates group processes including workforce readiness, financial literacy, and workshops.
- Develops, implements, and maintains adult continuing education program components.
- Orients new residents to the goals established to prepare for the Workforce Development portion of the Laura’s Home program, including the rules, learning opportunities, and expectations of the corresponding program phases.
- Supports residents to complete Individual Service Plans, assessing resident need and facilitating supportive services to assist in removing barriers that may prevent successful completion of the program.
Coordinates Effectively with Partners
- Coordinates with vocational partners, trainers, facilitators, and volunteers working with workforce development to ensure streamlined service delivery.
- Works extensively with Case Managers in the fulfillment of each resident’s Individual Service Plans.
- Works collaboratively with other TCM staff, partner agencies, and resource providers.
- Maintain collaborative and consultative relationships with existing community resources, growing TCM’s network in the field and building/maintaining relationships with employers and/or agencies.
- Collaborates with TCM staff in implementing workforce development initiatives and encourage resident accountability to their employment plans.
Offers Resident Support
- Provides career counseling and opportunities to participate in job and resource fairs.
- Acts as a financial mentor for residents.
- Assists residents with obtaining personal records.
- Engages community resources and employment contacts; assists residents with job placement.
- Maintains accurate case notes.
- Maintains and reports stats.

Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in workforce development is preferred.
- Experience in case management, including reporting and case note taking preferred.
- Knowledge in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention required.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- Ability to research and find community resources required.
- Meets requirements to be an approved driver of TCM vehicles is preferred.
- Flexible schedule as required by programming.
Essential Physical and Mental Functions:
- Remains in a stationary position for approximately 50% of the time
- Stand or walk for up 50% of the time on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
- Climb stairs.
- Constantly bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties.
- Lift, carry, or move 15 pounds.
- Constant use of both hands, fingers, and arms in reaching/handling/grasping.

- Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination.

- Read, understand, and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones.
- Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments.
- Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within
established guidelines.
