Job Summary
“Life-on-Life” ministry, in a relationship-oriented setting with clear boundaries and expectations. House parent will live on campus and serve a house with a max of 9 residents. Whetstone maintains a low 3:1 ratio of boys to staff, so house parent will also be responsible for leading a team-based approach to personal growth when they are “on duty,” which is usually a combination of morning, evenings and weekends totaling approximately 45 hours per week. In addition to their salary, they also receive full room and board in a new house which will be completed later this year, 2024.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop authentic relationships.
- Create and maintain a positive and structured environment.
- Actively support WBR’s mission, vision, and values - centered around “sharpening the character of young men,” and as they are outlined by our policies and procedures.
- Lead with energy, focus, intentionality, and the willingness to “join in” and be an integral part of the program.
- Work with a team to conduct/coordinate house meetings, recreational activities, community service projects, field trips, Bible studies, etc.
- Manage food and kitchen supplies budgets for both houses on campus.
- Responsible for managing house supply needs, assisting with morning, school, evening, and/or weekend programming, and ensuring that resident needs are met in terms of clothing, food, and other support.
- Complete all required documentation and communication tasks as assigned by the House Manager.
- Be willing to follow as well as lead. At times, it may be necessary for you to cover shifts as a direct care employee “under” a co-shift supervisor: in school, on field-trips, or as situations arise.
Personal Requirements
- Committed to the teaching and example of Jesus Christ
- Responsible, coachable, hardworking, and dedicated husband and wife, approximately 35 or older.
- Passionate about serving struggling teenagers.
- Experience with youth ministry/mentoring. (At-risk youth preferred.)
Other Related Stuff (ORS)
- State-specific Central Registry Child Abuse Clearance.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) training and updates (Whetstone provides this training after hire).
- 2-year commitment to serve.
